Cpl. Grassnig joined the Vermilion Police Department on september 1, 1989. In July 1997 he was selected to be the k-9 handler for the department. Cpl. Grassnig found "Boomer" to which they had a long partnership. Boomer retired in and Cpl. Grassnig set out to find a new partner.
After several months of searching, K-9 "Pia" was found. Pia is a German shepherd and had just recently arrived in the country from Germany.
After intensive training, Pia was successfully trained and joins Cpl. Grassnig on the road. Cpl. Grassnig & Pia are a great asset to this department and to surrounding communities.
